I did a virus scan and had two rundll errors showing at log in start up page. everything seemed to work ok but the rundll error message kept coming up. the rundlls referred to were bogus.... I did a system restore to try and eliminate those error messages. that did not help. A second system restore now leaves me with no log in screen coming up. goes from windowsxp to grey. I am still able to get to safe mode ok. also, all system restore points are now gone.

I'll assume XP (?)

This utility checks for the correct GINA value in the Registry and will allow you to restore it, if its incorrect.

Also, I see that you never fully finished the Malware removal guide a couple of months ago
And you also posted the same issue as above 2 days ago
Have you thought about just backing up (whilst you can in Safe Mode) and just re-installing clean?

Oh and I like your name, it looked like a picture when I first saw it
I hope you take my advice and also stick around for possible future issues that you may have ;)

If that doesn't work, reinstall the OS, but do not format the drive, or you will lose any data stored on the partition.
