Boot Failure

When I turn my laptop on the initial loading screen appears showing memory allocations, but will not continue further. I can't get into the BIOS, a message appears saying "loading BIOS please wait" but it never loads.

I tried using my reload disc, but the laptop freezes up before reading it.

Any help appreciated.

After a few unsuccessful attempts I left it overnight and turned my laptop on again this afternoon, and it booted up normally.

I am baffled as to why this would happen and am tempted to run the reload cds anyway, although I have lost some discs for various programmes along the way (including my antivirus). Or would using the restore points be a better idea, or just do nothing?
