Boxed copies of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 will ship with 10 discs

This is stupid. Most PC's don't even have optical drives anymore.

Cheap 128GB SSD's can be found for $20 now (I have one.) I also got a 128GB USB 3.0 Samsung flash drive for just $18 about a year ago. How much does it cost to duplicate, print & package 10 DL DVD's?

Just finding a modern PC case with external drive bays is rare now.

I agree. I haven't had an optical drive in my PC for like... ten years!

Because absolutely nobody has a Blu Ray drive. They hardly even make sense on the modern PC platform.
I must be absolutely nobody then because my spare PC (currently in bits though) has a Bluray drive ? Don’t forget that consoles have them, as will the new one coming, so they make sense for some platforms.

First option - USB C stick, playable
The second option - USB 3 stick
The third option - Blu-ray disk
... and they had to choose CD-ROM...

Will this be stupid like Blizzard? Buy a copy of Diablo III expansion on DVD ROM only to have it force you to download 18GB of content. Nothing installs off the disk. WTH?!

Well, now I just need a ... dvd drive.
Seriously, who still have one in a gaming pc ?
Maybe they could start selling those games in an USB memory stick (64 or 128 Gb depending on the game) for a little premium. They don’t need to be fast.

Well on a console it makes more sense (it is an entertainment hub after all, connected to a TV most of the times), but you have to admit on PCs is not that common.

Indeed, it's definitely not common and data like these shows why. I don't miss physical media for games but I do sometimes miss having an optical drive in my main PC.

Who is rich enough to buy this online? It kinda doesn’t make sense to buy it online! I understand it’s for nostalgia reasons but getting some discs in the post? You need to pick it up from your local store then tear the cellophane off, slap disc 1 in and wait for autorun to work! I’d probably download it and keep the discs if I were rich enough to waste the money. I mean it’s on game pass apparently which currently costs just £1 a week.
I bought fs2020 online from Steam, 10 days later my account was hacked and I lost over $200 in games I asked Steam to reload and all I got was the runaround.I have now bought the physical version and will never buy another digital version game again

Do you use Steam Guard?

About 25 cents a disk. Probably less for Microsoft in the quantities we're talking here. So considerably cheaper than using a flash drive.
