Inactive Browsers randomly won't load sites

I have a recent problem driving me crazy..

My computer is randomly not loading sites in IE or firefox. When it does finally loads, the sites generally are glitchy. Videos embed in sites play for a few seconds and then won't load. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. I have searched and searched looking for answers with negative results. I know exactly when it started...

The computer is a Dell 15z laptop that is less than 6 mos old. I am very anal about not clicking un-trusted links and shy away from anything that could be unsafe. I use this computer for college and I have lots of important data and university installed programs that I don't want to lose. I was in a class on tuesday and simply opened word and recorded my notes. My laptop connects to the universities internet whenever I am campus. I did not use the internet during this class. When I got home and went on the internet, this problem started.

I have cleared the cache, changed DNS servers to Google, I have also reset my router and my IP reset their connection to the house. When I try to surf the web on campus it will not work. Other programs connected to the internet work just fine. I stream netflix through my tv and it works without a skip also.

I must have received a virus or something I have now knowledge about. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions that anyone may have. I really don't want to reformat my harddrive and spend all those hours resetting my programs for school.

But we do not use HijackThis to screen for malware. The version you used is also outdated so you can uninstall it. I will give you a link and directions for HJT at a later time.

Does "random" means the same sites won't load-or-does it mean any site won't load a random times?

It seems to me that there isn't a specific dividing line between different types of sites. I have not used Site Advisor. I have 2 classes that run our homework through 2 different sites, mymathlab and mychemlab. I had some homework due last night and it took me hours to complete because the site would continually crash when moving to another problem or while looking up resources within the site. They have been the most effected I believe.

It means that any site won't load at random times. Sometimes it won't connect to the site after numerous attempts. When sites do load, they might work for a few minutes then they will freeze and links won't work on the site, the cursor doesn't highlight the link or change to a finger. I am actually using the computer to write this reply and it has been working but I will have to refresh every few minutes.

It is slow to load and I usually attempt connecting to sites 2-5 times.

When I mean "glitchy" I mean any flash that is running on the sites sometimes won't load or the videos simply jump around and won't play smoothly. I play a game on facebook with some friends and the game skips and jumps around.

Yea I know its connected to Google's Public DNS. I set that from a recommendation by a trusted friend. I mostly did it to see if it would change anything and I could get a better idea of whats happening.


I have noticed one other strange thing, it works better at night than during the day. I almost have no problems at night. I'm in the Pacific timezone. I hope I answered your questions completely, thanks again!

Thank you, You answered all very well. What you are describing is a typical server problem- maybe with your ISP whoever that is or for the servers that handle the math and chem. Typically, when a server isn't adequate to handle the amount of traffic coming through at that time, it will be very slow and at time, may time out completely.

But when the traffic is less> fewer users are try to access, connecting in not a problem. This is the "Random" part.

1.attempt connecting to sites 2-5 times.
2.site won't load at random times.
3.Sometimes it won't connect to the site after numerous attempts.

Pearson Announces Support for IMS Learning Information Services

Pearson just announced that they will be supporting the IMS LIS standard (and with Oracle’s SAIP implementation of it) across a number of their products. First, they’ll support it in MyLabs, which are subject-focused learning environments (e.g., MyChemLab, MyMathLab, etc.)—sort of a fusion between an online textbook and a lightweight LMS. This kind of provisioning cuts out the middle man of the full LMS. (Up until now, the course roster information would typically be provisioned to the LMS, and the LMS would then provision it to MyLabs.)

If the video and audio problems are on these sites, you will need to advise them of that also.
