BSOD repeats history

This happened on an Asus X54C with Windows 7.

So about a year ago, my laptop froze after the process of opening my lid and trying to click the "Owner" icon to enter the desktop. After restarting it, there was the blue screen. I had to to bring it to Geek Squad at best buy and a wait a week for repair. It started working again, in their receipt they stated the issue was "due to unit thinking there was memory in empty slot on bottom."(Whatever that means)

1 year later as of today, it happened again! The only difference was that the icon was missing and I couldn't do anything but restart it. So I have to bring it in tomorrow and possibly ship it for a week.

But in the mean time, I just wanted to know does anyone else have any bright ideas? I've tried the start up repair and all the safe mode options, but no dice. I don't know why this happened again, my antivirus came up clean. The only thing I can think of was that I've downloaded about 4gb worth of stuff a few days ago, but I've always deleted them afterwards.
