Can I install a driver for a CD drive prior to updating to Windows 7?

  1. I updated from vista 32 bit to 7 64 bit, there was an issue however. The computer kept crashing, i think it maybe due to driver conflict with the cd drive, because the cd drive only worked sporadically after the update. I installed vista once again, and am planning to try to install the driver for 64 bit 7 prior to installing 7, is this a resonable plan?

    The problem was my computer kept crashing after i updated to 7, it was the blue screen of death.

    CDs typically use generic Windows drivers tho there are things called "filter drivers" which might be installed by vendors.

    Let's take a look
    > Download/run Filter Driver Load Order tool
    > Select your CD/DVD in left pane
    > Then click on the Clipboard button and paste the result back into your next post
