When I try to boot my pc I get this message:software error, then it say load dll for kernels, contact administrator

when I try to reinstall xp it says that I have 2 partions and it appears that all of the space is available on both

lastly when I go into recovery console and I run chksdk I get 'The volume appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems'

Is my hard drive fried or if I format the old partition will it still work, I do have the most important files backed up

Is this the first time you tried to boot this PC ? Did someone give it to you ?
If you get to the option for chkdsk, then your OS booted.
So whats the problem ?
Why are you trying to reinstall.?
Read your XP install instructions .It needs Formating first and set to boot from
the XP disc set in the bios if you want a new installation.

I think the probem is that the hard drive crashed. we have been using the computer for a couple of years, yet the main partition a shows that there is no space used on it and the message when I try to install says it cannot find another installation of windows when I know there was one. I am assuming reformating hard drive is my only possibility
