The main difference between ICE and EV is just maturity at this point. Lithium and cobalt are still in limited supply because they are still prospecting new mines to open (Canada and Greeland both have sigificant untapped deposits of both), while oil and gas have had hundreds of years to figure out where the deposits are, and the demand to find and access more.
