Can't upgrade Vista from SP1 to SP2

I've been trying to upgrade to Service Pack 2, but I can't seem to get it working. Using automatic updates fails(Nothing happens, installation does not start). Using the installation that can be downloaded from Microsoft's site also fails(Installation freezes). I tried to download Windows Update Readiness Tool, as I have been told it solves problems that hinder or prevent upgrading to SP2, but its installation ends in failure as well(Installation freezes). Any advice or suggestions on what to do?

Open a command prompt window and type "sfc /scannow" without the quotes. I think you'll need a Vista disk if some files are bad.
