China considers selling TikTok to Elon Musk

WTF?! Could Elon Musk soon own not one but two of the largest social media platforms in the world? According to a new report, Chinese officials are considering selling TikTok's US operations to the X owner to avoid being banned in the country. However, TikTok has called the claims "pure fiction."

The US Supreme Court appears poised to let the law stand that will ban TikTok on January 19 unless owner ByteDance divests its US operations.

According to a report by Bloomberg, Chinese officials are considering an option in which TikTok's business in America is sold to Elon Musk, one of Donald Trump's closest allies.

The report added that the company's US operations could either be sold through a competitive process or an arrangement by the Chinese government, suggesting the decision regarding the app's future isn't ByteDance's alone. The company has consistently insisted that it is not controlled by Beijing, but reports that the Communist Party is deciding TikTok's fate suggest otherwise.

TikTok previously said that divestment isn't an option as the Chinese government would not allow it.

Musk has a better relationship with China than Trump, who has long taken a hardline approach to the Asian nation. The world's richest person has met with Chinese officials on several occasions, praised the country, and has a Tesla factory in Shanghai.

One of the scenarios is for X to take control of TikTok US and run the businesses together. Chinese officials have not yet reached a consensus on how to proceed.

TikTok has denied the report that Musk could soon take over another social media site. "We can't be expected to comment on pure fiction," a company spokesperson said.

Despite being tough on China and attempting to ban the app during his first stint in office, Trump has a soft spot for TikTok, which he says helped him win the youth vote. He has asked the Supreme Court to delay its decision on the ban until he takes office on January 20, the day after the deadline, so the president can seek a "political resolution." Senator Edward Markey and Representative Ro Khanna have also called on Congress and Joe Biden to extend the deadline.

Trump met TikTok's chief executive, Shou Zi Chew, at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida in December.

The forced sale is the result of a bill announced last year that is designed to "protect the national security of the United States from the threat posed by foreign adversary controlled applications."

Musk often uses X to comment on major news reports involving himself, but he's been uncharacteristically quiet about this one.

When is Elon Musk going to do the entire human race a favour and get in one of his rockets and f**k off to Mars?
My favorite thing about Elon is how much the left loved him for his work moving the world forward toward green energy but then they absolutely hated him when he he turned out to be a conservative.

Does the left remember why they hate him or has the cycle of hate been going on so long that they've forgotten

Elon why don't you do something really important. Like buy a ticket on your next SpaceX rocket off the planet. Do us all a favour.

How about when conservatives hated Musk because of all the subsidies Tesla received from the government but then they absolutely loved him when he pretended to be conservative?

Probably because he used all the money from the subsidies to help get trump elected. I never considered myself a conservative , just that I feel like the democratic party had abandoned people like me in favor of what I'm calling "toxic liberalism"

Yes.

It seems that if you're hated by both sides, you're doing something right.

Bingo. This guys gets it.

I used to be a Democrat but lately, because of all the polices and ideologies that they've been pushing lately, I can't call myself one anymore. Am I a Republican? No, not by a long shot. However, I do find myself aligning with them more so than not.

The left hate Elon Musk simply because he allowed their critics back on X. Thats it. Before that we wouldn't see comments sections filling up with childish ad hominem attacks on him and his character (from people that have literally never met the man).

Of course, his critics will deny this. But we all know its true.

American Social Media for the longest time has been tripe. It’s almost entirely controlled by the legacy media, who promote Communists, scantily clad women displaying for the world their only redeeming features, consoomer-grade merchandizing, and grown men pretending to be 5 years old with their “reactions”.

One would hope that Musk, in control of TikTok, would adjust the algorithms to favor DIY and STEM content the way it does in China, but I’m not holding my breath.

My favorite thing about Elon is how dumb the right is for believing he's actually conservative. They absolutely hated him when he was showing his true colors as a liberal.

How many conservatives actually bought a GREEN vehicle their "hero" produces? Conservatives are so predictable. It's almost like that Scientology cult. As long as you agree with them they immediately love you. If George Soros started giving hundreds of millions of dollars to conservative causes you people would be celebrating him as a conservative hero tomorrow.

Fun fact: Musk voted conservative for the first time ever last year. Yeah, he's a real hardcore conservative. hahaha

No, it's because the current cabal that have taken over the republican party aren't right wing or conservatives - they are a bunch of deranged criminals, lunatics and utterly morally repugnant maniacs. Most of them seem utterly certifiable. :D
I've never seen a more perfect example of Messiah Complex than Elon Musk. He exhibits every trait. I don't believe that an intelligent man such as yourself doesn't know this in your heart of hearts, and isn't a little embarrassed by the way he and the rest of the republicans behave, but it seems in the US that you pick a side and stick with it no matter what, which is an incredibly unhealthy way to go about politics.

That's cute. Reminds me of those guys who start with "I'm not a racist, but..." followed by something extremely racist. Sure buddy, you're not a Republican, you just voted for Trump and believe everything Republicans believe, and only because the Democrats are so bad. It wasn't for those woke/DEI Democrats you would definitely be a liberal!

I suppose in your world "toxic liberalism" trumps (pun intended) "the party of grifters and liars" which is what the Republican party is now.

When you put it that way, I don't see the Republicans any differently than I did 20 years. Not saying I agree with them, just that understand how the democrats lost what should have been an easy win. And let's be honest, the Republicans haven't been to present a better candidate than Trump for a very long time. Say what you will about Trump, but what does that say about the state of the party?

The democrats gave up an easy win because they didn't listen to what to their base wanted. Most, like me, probably looked at both candidates and just didn't vote. Both parties were awful with even worse rhetoric. Any reasonable person looked at the election and thought, "the next 4 years are going to suck regardless of who wins, I've got better things to do."
