  1. Every time I open my "Videos" folder, I get this message saying "COM Surrogate has stopped working. Windows can check online for the solution to the problem." Then I have the option to check online for a solution and close the program, or just close the program. Neither option does anything other than close the error window. This only happens in the videos folder, and not the subfolders. Here are the error details it gives

    4. Select the “Data Execution Protection†tab, and then check“Turn on DEP
for all programs and services except those I selectâ€

    4. Click on the Add button, and then browse to
    C:\Windows\System32\dllhost.exe as shown

Thank you! When iI applied the change, it said I needed to restart for it to take effect, but it seems to have worked immediately.

just out of curiosity: does it then display the preview of the videos as thumbnails which causes the problem (plus usually a missing or wrong versioned codec)?

In my videos folder, there are a few wmv movies, which have a thumbnail, a few QuickTime movies, which don't, and some folders. Some of the subfolders also had mixed formats, nclidong wmv files with previews, but the error only happenedbin the main folder.
