Compaq Armada M700

I bougth from germany (ebay) a dwd rw unit Panasonic UJ-820B that the seller works with Compaq armada M700. When I connect it to the m700 it does not start at all, I can´t even reach the setup, with its own original dvd everything works fine. The seller says it is compatible with m700 , is there anyting I must do to get it Working. I do not use this dayly I am just a collector of old laptops.
