Computer RESET Failed in Win 10

I Recently had a virus that encrypted some of my files and then they want you to pay to unencrypt them. The virus has been removed but encrypted files are lost which caused all kinds of headaches. I am trying to do a Reset and start over with clean files but when I do I get message that Reset Failed (no reason given) and nothing was changed. Can anyone suggest a way around this or another way to restore my computer to an earlier time. I have no Restore points before virus. Computer came with Win 8 and has since been upgraded to Win 10
