Connection issues (I have 2 lap tops and one keeps dropping)

Hi all. Not sure if this is in the right forum but I have an issue with connecting to the internet for any degree of time.
I have a Toshiba laptop and it's been running fine for a few years. The Mrs just bought an Acer and we set it up as instructed.
The issue is that I can use my Toshiba no problem, the internet is fine. But for her Acer, it drops all the time. It blames DNS connections sometimes, other times it blames the router.
I am lost... and not exactly that good on fixing these sorts of things.
Can somebody help me out? I tried calling my ISP and they were having more trouble speaking English than they were able to help me. :(

Are both in the same room or not? Are you talking wifi or DSL? If wifi, are there any walls, floors or other objects blocking the way? If DSL, are all connections tight?

What is the brand router you are using. If it is a cisco/linsky. There should be a button on the router to sinc the laptop with. Sometimes this will help with the problem. You are having.
