Console scalper says we should think about the young people making a good living from...

I was referring to your post as if scalpers were rigging the market. They are not. Prices are not set by scalpers, as they are the product of high demand and low supply. Scalpers only facilitate the exchange of goods. That's it.
Partly true. If scalpers weren't buying up supply then it might not be so constrained. And, I would suggest that if there were no scalpers the prices might not be as high as we are seeing. In other words, Nvidia, may or may not increase prices due to high demand. They may just set their price and deal with supply shortages without increasing end-user prices.

Consider this, if Nvidia jacked prices up to scalper levels would scalpers still buy the GPUs and try to sell them at even higher prices? Maybe. Of course there likely would be a major backlash towards Nvidia and people would probably turn to AMD for GPUs.

I mean a $100 more then fine. I wouldn't ***** about it tooooo much. But a lot of these scalpers were marking it up like 200%. Those are the scums of the Earth. However imo using a bot and forcing people to buy consoles from you is shitty regardless of how much extra you're charging. Plus it opens the door for people to be screwed by illegitimate sellers because they can't tell the difference between a legit product for sale and a scam. The whole thing just needs to be done away with imo.

SNIP

And other parts they aren't smart or helping young people, consoles and computers are a necessity not a luxury because in this day and age technology is soo integrated into society disrupting a video game industry has grave implications for the other industries that follow
These wankers are by right evil people

I don't think they are really disrupting the gaming industry, but I agree they are unethical and evil people. But, a video game console is a luxury. No one "needs" a video game.
Some people buy consoles to play games to escape from a shitty life in the 80s if you got abused you'd goto the arcade to hangout and forget things this isn't any different these scammers are horrible people. Me personally haven't been able to buy one at a fair price because they use a botnetwork to swipe up all the cheap consoles to then sell on there sites
They aren't resellers they are scammers
There are many, even better, ways to escape a shitty life and they don't cost that much. There are outdoor activities like hiking or going to the beach, books, movies, hobbies like painting or skateboarding, playing soccer and so much more, not to mention playing a regular card or board game. Ever hear of Dungeons and Dragons, it can be played with pencil and paper. A video game is not the answer to your life's problems.

Yeah... No. 3K for a $400 console isn't a little extra. I can understand $500 or $600 but the pricing has gone up to a ridculous high on trading post pages and places like amazon and ebay. That would legit take me 3 years worth of saving up each bloody month and it's not happening. They can be sold at a reasonable price or I'm just not going to get one. Tons of others are actually behind me on this too.

I say it is fine, as long as there are enough people willing to pay extra, let the scalpers take their money.

Not when they scam the system so you can't get yours directly, but they can spoof the system and buy in bulk.

If they were doing what each individual person was doing, then scalp your hard earned products. But when they show up at your house on a crate, because you swindled a retailer's online system.... it isn't scalping, it is racketeering.

Not to mention, how do you know they even have the real product? You have zero means to recover your money should they decide to scam you.

Scalper demand is negligible compared to miners and even PC gamers and only temporary because they don't want to keep the cards. If Nvidia jacked up the price to "scalper level" (which is actually market level) there would be no (Nvdia) scalpers and secondly sales would plummet because vast majority would turn to AMD and Nvdia would lose GPU leader position.

Really? So back when there was not crypto currencies which could be mined on a GPU and no pandemic, do you remember any scalper activitiy? Anybody complaining about scalpers. Or what magical power scalpers now posses that they haven't before?
Actually, yes. It wasn't GPUs per se, but we have seen short supply of gaming consoles, often around the Holidays in December. We have seen people going into stores and buying everything on the shelf and then advertising locally at a much higher price. Or how about Tickle-Me Elmo? Remember that one?

What magic do they have now? Well, it seems like they are set up to auto-order products, in-bulk, often buying up inventory before anyone can get an order in.

In the world of firearms, they have similar problems in that people are buying up and hoarding ammo and reloading components. Most places now have placed limits on how much you can order to allow for a more even distribution of inventory and, there's not much scalping going on because of that.

I don't know if I would say scalper demand is negligible. I really haven't done any research on that, but it seems like they are impacting availability of the product.

Demand is high, yes, partly due to crypto mining and certainly for gaming. Although, I suspect the demand for the top-end (ie expensive) versions of the card is mostly driven by miners or graphic designers who need that horsepower. Sure, there's always that guy who has money to spend for the $2000 GPU, but I think most gamers are looking more to the value cards, good performance without requiring a pay-day loan to buy one.

"They spend more time with their family...", "So remember, if you choose not to make money scalping, it’s because you’re lazy."
This is exactly the kind of immoral mindset unrestrained capitalism produces and encourages!
And you should accept being screwed and thank the likes of him to allow scalpers to spend more time with their family!

Who said disgusting?

"Won't anyone think of the children?!?" Yeah... me thinks he doth protest tooo much.

Okay, I'm really on the fence about this. How much of a difference is there between the scalpers and any OEM creating artificial shortages to pump up the price people will pay? They're both kind of scummy in my books for doing things like that. But if there's demand then who can say that scalpers shouldn't be allowed to take advantage of people willing to pay a premium?

What really needs to happen is all three console makers dump a whole lot of inventory at a reduced price so the scalpers end up taking a loss to unload their inventory. It's about the only way to discourage the practice IMHO. Think they'll actually do it? Of course not, they benefit from the supply shortage just as much as scalpers do, and no matter how much any of them wring their hands over the situation they could really care less. A sales a sale in their book and that's all that matters.

Scammers?

Like AMD selling the 6500 XT with its amazing ray tracing performance? You know... what's on the box AMD and its partners print up and put into the stores.

'For those of you wondering why we are comparing with the RX 6600 and not the 6500 XT for the ray tracing benchmark, we simply didn't want to be so cruel. Seriously though, the 6500 XT is so weak with ray tracing enabled that the data isn’t useful for comparison.'

Are people really unable to comprehend that the main problem here is with AMD and Nvidia not making it possible for gamers to get decent-quality cards at reasonable prices?

People are obsessing over a symptom of the problem. The scalpers would have no power if AMD and Nvidia weren't scamming PC gamers. AMD literally competes against PC gamers with its friends Sony and MS, the so-called console business. Consoles are PCs in disguise. They are absolutely nothing more than Trojan Horse walled software gardens. We don't need them but AMD uses them to inflate PC gaming GPU prices so it can leverage its 'Polaris Forever' + cards designed for mining strategy. That has been going on for many years.

Scammers. Take a look at your friendly GPU companies. Oh yeah... that great 6500 XT ray tracing performance. See, Ma? It says it right on the box!

MSI raised its prices to scalper levels before the other OEMs. But, we won't call their executives horrible people, right? When the other OEMs dutifully followed suit that wasn't because they have a problem scalping gamers, right?

See, its hard to blame scalpers, or OEMS, where there are SO MANY CONSOOMERS out there that they make this possible. These guys making $60k a month can only od so because millions are willing to pay 4x MSRP to play their bing bing wahoo or mine their funny money.

*insert you get what you deserve meme here*.

Imagine thinking scalpers are produced by capitalism LMFAO.

Dude, do some research into the massive grey and blakc markets that persisted thoughout soviet russia sometime. Scalping occurs whenever there is opportunity, its not just a capitalist thing.

Yes, you're right, that's something universal in fact, or simply just human in fact. In the end, it's just a question of ethics and personal responsibility.
