Coronavirus response goes mainstream, no longer just about cancelled tech conferences

During epidemics such as the Coronavirus, it should be mandatory for people with infection to wear identifiable bands or ribbons. Anyone testing positive should be fined for not displaying their infectious condition....[ ]../.
Cliff, this is not judgmental or an attempt to start any sort of argument.

I offer it to the sole end of drawing a parallel and provoking thought:

Lepers:
www2.kenyon.edu › projects › margin › lepers

Lepers were made to wear distinctive clothing. (See the Mass of Separation.) Jews and prostitutes also had to wear marked clothing.

Fast facts from the WHO in relation to some statements made on covid 19 here:

The first 100000 cases - 67 days
100000 to 200000 cases - 11 days
200000 to 300000 cases - 4 days

9850 new cases, 550 dead, in the US in the last 24 hours.

It is horrible.
Agreed man. And it could get much worse.
Check this:

I wanted to add some more stats just released. It's just for us in the US but I'm sure other governments have similar stats.

On March 23rd alone as stated above, the US added 9850 new cases for 550 total dead.
On March 23rd the US reached a total of 47000 cases.

3 weeks ago on March 2nd, the US had 100 cases total.

I understand what you are getting at. I would like to think. We would operate with a bit more passion than in the days of old. However I could be mistaken.....[ ]....
Well Cliff, Asian members of our community are being beaten up, along with racial slurs and such:

I couldn't link the video separately, so here's the entire page. I don't think this is very widespread, just "kid stuff". (Albeit very shocking "kid stuff").

@scavengerspc I"m from Philly.

Oh ok, I am from Pittsburgh. I've been to Pilly a few times over the years for Steeler-Eagles and Penguins-Flyers games.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I would like to draw your attention to the following;
This is a tracking map created by Johns Hopkins University for the sole purpose of helping the public see the big picture. They do not post data unless it has been verified. Due to that fact the data shown can be as much as 24hours delayed. However such a delay will not hinder anyone being given an accurate over-all perspective of the situation in the world.

My take away for this info is that covid-19 is nothing to panic about.

2 types of people would say that. Stupid people and optimists.
I'm thinking optimist for you.

So time for an update.

First the US:
10137 new cases in the last 24 hours.
Total number of cases to 58000.
Deaths have jumped from 550 to 781 in less than 48 hours.

Now globally:
Since Monday morning 340000 to 422000
Deaths from 14000 to 18700

At 4:25 AM today the WHO announced that America could soon become the new epicenter of the virus because 30%-40% of all new cases are here.

The US now leads the world in the number of confirmed coronavirus cases

In the last 36 hours, global cases increased from 422000 to 533000.
In the last 36 hours, global deaths have increased from 18700 to 24075.

In the last 36 hours, US cases have increased from 58000 to 86000.
In the last 36 hours, US deaths have increased from 781 to 1300.

Do whatever you have to do to be safe.

People and governments are over-reacting. Covid-19 is still far less deadly than a lot of things that kill humans. For example, Cancer. Cancer killed more people in California last year than covid-19 has killed so far worldwide by more than double.

The world is panicking over something that is just as contagious as the common cold and only slightly more lethal than the flu. Yes, such a great reason to shut down the world...

So you don't care anything for the people it is killing.
It is no different than that of anything else that kills people. It is unfortunate. It is also life. Death is a part of normal life and if we're going to shut down the planet for something like this then we should be shutting down the planet for everything else too, especially for things that cause heart attack and cancer. Oh and we should shut down all of our roads as more people die from car accidents too. Let's just bring everything we do to a grinding halt for a silly virus... Yes let's do that..
Because it seems to be highly contagious.
It's no more so than the common cold, which is also a part of the corona virus strain.

Car accidents are not spread by contagion. If they were that would be a good analogy. One that I would agree with.

1. Cancer is not contagious. It cant be limited by our actions when around people that have it.
2. Correct me if I'm wrong (I'm not). The common cold isn't exactly known as a killer.
3. Death is a normal part of life. Opening the door for it is not.
(Even if it sounds like Norm Macdonald)
4. Refer to @cliffordcooley in his post (#68).
5. 177 Countries and 7 billion people is not an over reaction.
I hope you took note that I said I believe you are being optimistic.
Maybe I should reconsider that. ;)

Update time:
In the last 36 hours, global cases increased from 533000 to 662000.

In the last 36 hours, US cases have increased from 86000 to 123000.
In the last 36 hours, US deaths have increased from 1300 to 2050.

I think, if you were in a high risk group, had Covid19, or someone in your family was on a ventilator, you'd be preaching an entirely different sermon.

See, I'm 70, and there is a possibility of me dying from this virus, and while I quite agree that I have to die someday, I don't want it to be the day after tomorrow

It's no more so than the common cold, which is also a part of the corona virus strain.
And lions, tigers, leopards, and house cats are all in the the family "felidae". Which one do you think you'd rather have as a pet?

So, it would be nice if you "put your money where you mouth is", so to speak, and go out and see if you can willingly get "the harmless common covid".

Update time:
In the last 36 hours, global cases increased from 662000 745000.

In the last 36 hours, US cases have increased from 123000 to 144000.
In the last 36 hours, US deaths have increased from 2050 to 2500.

Watching for trends?

Update time and some fast facts to boost American pride:
In the last 36 hours, global cases increased from 745000 to 858000.

In the last 36 hours, US cases have increased from 144000 to 188000.
In the last 36 hours, US deaths have increased from 2500 to 3900.

Perspective:
America has 325,000,000 people and 188000 cases.
Canada has 38,000,000 people and 8500 cases.
India has 1.4 Billion people in a territory 1\3 the size of the US and 1400 cases.
Japan has 127,000,000 people and 1900 cases.
Tokyo itself has 14,000,000 people and 500 cases.

The bottom 4 tallies show what happens when the advice of Doctors and health officials is followed.
America shows what happens when it is not.

So welcome to the good old USA. Home to a lot of the brightest, and a lot of the dumbest bunch of dip ***** in the world.
