Crashing XP

Hi

Problem with XP explorer crashes each time I try to open CMD or REGEDIT. Explorer comes back but it is a real pain

Sorry Marty, but there isn't enough information here.

Do you have security programs on the system? Have you updated and run scans with them?
Malware can cause what you describe.

If you think that is a possibility, please move to the Virus and Malware Forum. Follow the Steps HERE

When through, attach all three logs and someone will review them for malware.

Check if your execute file for regedit and cmd is still alive.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\regedit.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe

If found other place then is high possibility it is infected. If not found at all then your almost 100% infected by a virus/malware.

Thanks for leading me in the right direction, turned out to be spyware. Used SuperAnti Spyware and others and now all OK.

Marty, you're on your own here. Without reviewing the malware logs, I cannot do anything to help.
