Hello TS!

I need to distribute networked printers to users when they logon. I have been trying to understand how the GPO works with deploying printers but I have only found myself to be more confused.

I have a network with over 150 workstations and multiple networked printers. Is Group Policy the best way to distribute the printers or is it possible to connect to them via logon script?

thanks
maX

GPO (as I understand) sets limits, permissions, etc ..., and does not perform actions
(eg: installs) per se.

Mapping shared drives/printers would be a logon script function.

Printer install would be also, but clearly conditioned upon the absence of the device.

VERIFY this, as I don't have access to MS Server/Vxxx :)

it is possible to map network printers via the NET PRINT command. If you have TCP/IP printers you can install them via TCP/IP (on one PC) share them from this PC and then map them via NET PRINT. You can do this with logon scripts and assign the scripts with Group Policy.

yep, that will work -- BUT the drivers still need to be installed :)
