Dave Bautista takes over as Kratos in Amazon's God of War series

I had no idea who "Bautista" was and I see he is some Mestizo actor from South America who looks more Indio than Spanish.

Ryan Hurst at least looked the part, he's Caucasian after all. Always a fan of Hurst's since SoA, I hope this won't take him down. Keep at it, Opie.

Are you joking? What rock have you be living under? Bautista is not South American. Your lack of understanding and disappointment is just sad, very badly.

I am with you 100%. Every time it is a culture of a minority group, they literally study history to represent them correctly, including the right shade of the actor's skin. Enough with this hypocrisy.

Kratos is literally ashen. Unless you’re casting an albino it doesn’t matter what race they are.

Every race and nationality deserves authenticity in cinema.

Dave is part Greek, unless you want to hire a Greek actor you’re not getting closer. The recasting is actually a closer representation to the character than the original

-Kratos is not a historical figure from a real culture that needs ethnographic accuracy. He’s a fictional, ash-covered demigod from a video game.
-Bautista does have Greek ancestry.
-The character’s defining visual trait is the gray ash and red markings, not the actor’s natural skin tone.

I always thought he is somewhere from where people have darker, but not black, skin and are Asians. He is still a bad pick. This is the type of the argument where you could hire an Indian actor to play Lincoln since the actor's ancestors where Americans.
Meanwhile, an actor that looks the part, AND is of the correct race is still a so much better choice. Batista should be one of those trickery gods because his face gives a bit mischievous expression. That is why the role in Guardians of the Galaxy worked so well for him. Slightly comedic roles fit him. No matter how much white paint you put on his face, it will still be his face.

You’re not fooling anyone.

First you said he doesn’t look Greek enough. Then when it was pointed out he actually is part Greek, you moved the goalposts to “I don’t care about ancestry, he just looks like Danny Trejo.” Now you’re pretending the real issue is that his face is “too mischievous” for Kratos and that makeup somehow can’t fix it.

Meanwhile you’ve ignored that the character is covered in ash, that Bautista has already played silent, brutal, intimidating roles (Spectre, Blade Runner 2049, Dune, Knock at the Cabin, etc.), and that Ryan Hurst wasn’t exactly a Mediterranean historical reenactor either.

This isn’t about “looking the part.” It’s about you not wanting a mixed guy with Filipino features in the role, full stop. The comedy excuse and the “correct race” talk are just the latest cover. You already admitted the standard: only a certain look is allowed to represent a Greek mythological character, ancestry be damned.

Own it or drop it. The filmography already shows he can do the presence. The rest is just you policing skin and features.
