Dell XPS M1330 wont start up

Hi all,

I have a dell xps m1330 which was overheating, i opened it and took of the fan and the heat conductor to see if the insulator is ok. after putting everything back, my laptop wont start up again. when i press the power button, i can see the power light, and hear the dvd and the HD for just 5 seconds and it shuts down again. nothing appears on the screen. i tried to turn it on with only the battery, the ac adaptor alone and both together but no luck.

any suggestions please as its my only laptop and i cant afford another one

thanks

You can't remove the heatsink from the CPU without cleaning off the old thermal compound and applying new compound (use sparingly). If you do, it will really overheat now.

Thanks for the reply,

actually i didnt remove it, i just checked it but i think i broke some of the small bits on the motherboard....

Okay. That wasn't clear to me the first time. Do you know what you broke? I can imagine that, depending on what you broke, it could have affected the operation of the laptop.

Also, was there a lot of dust clogging the heatsink? Were you able to clean it?
