Der8auer tests PC chimney effect, dropping CPU temps by 19°C with a 110cm 3D-printed tower

Only once did I buy a "ready to go," desktop. It was a Dell 435 back in 2008.

It had the stock little Intel cooler only, but Dell added a 30cm "chimney" inside the lovely case. The CPU was the first core. i7 940 powerful and hot at the time. But this one ran cool.

I would hazard a guess that the way they implemented the "chimney," on the pathetic Intel stock cooler doubled it's performance.

A few years later it was all rendered obsolete by the release of the revoutionary "SandyBridge, core gen 2."

I can attest that even a short chimney can boost air cooling greatly. The effect is probably more noticable the worse the cooler is.

P.S. The base core 1 model was the i7 920. The 940 was the same but with a base clock of 2.93GHz. Of course it had turbo boost.

The chimney was actually horizontal, but had the effect of pulling more air through the wee little stock Intel cooler. Very clever. The chimney probably cost $5 or so, but was perfectly sealed with the cooler invisible inside the 30cm plastic Chimney.

Germany dependent on the USA for their very existence. They want the USA to fund their defense against Russia yet buy Russian oil. I don't want to hear about the great German engineering. They can make junk as well as anyone. They engineered their tanks so well they could only be fixed at the factory
You ignored every point I made to go off on a rant repeating likely Fox News talking points. Do you do any of your own thinking or do you let the media do it for you?

I pointed out significant manufacturing isn't returning to the states, and you just ignored it.

I mentioned tariffs have nothing to do with bringing jobs back to the US and you ignored it.

You said there was no manufacturing in Europe. I mentioned there is plenty of manufacturing in Europe and gave the example of all the things in German stores made in Germany and you went on a rant that had nothing to do with anything being discussed.

"...the USA to fund their defense against Russia..." As of 2026 Germany has the largest Military budget in all of Europe, even more than Poland, which has set the example of military spending for defense for all of Europe for years. Germany has a 100 billion Euro fund set aside for Military modernization. The US and every country in NATO funds their collective defense by spending money on their own individual country's military.

Germany doesn't buy Russian Oil and hasn't since 2022. I was living in Germany when energy prices spiked after they stopped buying Russian oil. Germany now buys at least 15% of their oil from the US. Hungry was the country that didn't stop buying Russian Oil when Russia was sanctioned.

"could only be fixed at the factory" their are at least two depots that can repair those tanks outside of Germany.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Have you ever left the country to get some perspective?

But how many bald eagles is it?
I hazard a guess. Please don't use this for serious docs, reports, reviews, business.

My guess is it would be two. Their names are Itchy and Scratchy, related to characters in anime, which is turn is a anime in that anime. The famous one where people are yellow.

This is merely opinion, and I shall open legal procedures against anyone who says I quoted it as fact.

There are just a few folks here who are very touchy, and, "always right," when it comes to anything that could in anyway be constured as of a political nature.

I am simply protecting myself, just incase.

Oh, and yes, I am deliberately being daft and sarcastic, - just like talking deeply with "right wing, or left wing view points and opinion stated as fact about various politicians, Left wing or right wing perspectives, in a tech forum.

There are plenty of other forums for that kind of thing. Whenever opinionated agenda driven political points are made here, on this tech forum, everytime I've seem it, laughed, then rolled my eyes later when it gets nasty and personal.

Of course legislation that would have any bearing on tech is totally fine. Good in fact.

But I have no interest in which party, person, Prime Minister or President, members here vote for, and why they are 100% correct.
