Desktop & Power outage

I'll try to make this simple. In the past month or so the power in the house has gone out a few times, my HP Tower obviously shuts down, does the power outage cause any damage to the tower when that happens, thank you

If it happens too often it may upset some components, however it is when power is restored you often get a spike that can cause damage, The more likely damage will be to your Microsoft installation [if you use Windows]
If you are worried, get yourself either a plug or extension lead with inbuilt surge protection,

Would it do any good to reset it to factory settings??

I doubt it. I lost my desktop at the beginning of covid, a power spike took out the ram, 2 of 5 internal hard drives and the motherboard power regulator. It was cheaper to get another re-use desktop and a new surge protector than try to make repairs,

Ok, thanks.

I myself worry about power outage in the middle of system/bios updates. I use both power surge protectors as well as a UPS. I notice that when there is a lightning nearby, there's an electrical surge into my system anyway.
