DVD burner help

I recently bought a compaq presario with a DVD burner and lightscribe tech. I am using roxio software to burn with also. My problem is whenever I try to copy a disc to burn it keeps telling me that it is scratched or dirty, no matter what the condition of the DVD is. I also tried to copy it as an image to my hard drive and says the same thing, how do I fix this problem? Do I need to use a different pragram? I'm new at the whole burning thing so any help would be greatly apprectiated.

Even though it's new It might be a defective DVD burner. How is it at other tasks?

BTW, which Roxio software are you using? What name and version?

it works fine, plays dvd's and games just fine

Download CCleaner
Run it and clean out all temp files on your system
