Eidos Montreal says you can "forget" about a Thief 5

Last week we reported that Straight Up Films might have leaked that a fifth installment of the Thief series was in the works. However, this rumor was blown to smithereens yesterday when Eidos Montreal head David Anfossi sarcastically tweeted, “Apparently we’re developing Thief 5 game! So now we have a title … We just have to build a team, a budget … Forget it!”

The rumor arose when SU,F. updated its page for the upcoming Thief film adaption. Instead of providing a progress update on the movie, the website described and praised the game series. It called Thief “one of the greatest games ever created” and mentioned that a sequel was in production that was “in step” with the movie.

It was unclear whether “in step” meant it was being produced at the same time or whether it was the storyline that was in step with the film. However, the website has removed the claim of a sequel since Anfossi’s tweet.

While Eidos Montreal could be cleverly employing deceptive damage control over a leak that it did not want getting out, it would probably not be a good idea to hold your breath waiting for it. While David’s tweet did elicit a response from supporters of a Thief 5, more people came out to brutally bash Thief 2014.

Upon its release in 2014, Eidos commented that future sequel endeavors would entirely depend on how Thief was received. Since the response to the game was mediocre at best, a Thief 5 was unlikely from the beginning. The Twitter jabs might have only reinforced that stance.

French Canadians are the worst type of frenchies IMO
I had to deal with Eidos Montreal over a copyright issue a few years ago and found that their automated phone system does not have an option for English. As if they never get any calls whatsoever from anyone who speaks anything other than French. lol

Consider it gone & easily forgotten!
Indeed. I remember when "Thief" 4 came out with "Obtain 4 headshots" as a mission requirement. Dumbed down so much (for the "casual audience") Thief fans were calling it "Call of Thiefy"...

Button mashing QTE's, super-annoying micro-cutscenes on every pickup, screen flashes white in case you’re too stupid to use the light gem (itself dumbed down from 11 to 3 states), almost everything from rope arrows to even jumping requires "contextual use", messed up sound physics and audio bugs that were somehow worse than the 1997 original, "checkpoints of no return" that destroyed most of the franchise's former wide-open feel in already tiny maps that were a joke compared to the originals, Pay2Win "Booster" Packs, unwanted "Batman super-powers" (in a franchise whose entire gameplay is based on "you play an ordinary guy with no super-powers"). And almost everything about the plot was a 99% ripoff of Dishonored (The Gloom = The Plague, Gloomers = Weepers, Queen of Beggars = Granny Rags, Madam Xiao-Xiao = Madame Prudence, House of Blossoms = Golden Cat, Baron = Lord Regent, Swoop = Blink, Focus = Dark Vision, etc).

Yeah, rebooted "Thief" won't be missed at all.

So they make a crappy game and scrap the whole series because of that? Hope they go bankrupt or sell it so someone with interest can do a good tief game. Shame to see another great IP destroyed by corporate greed.
