You referenced a driver who killed someone while using cruise control (which never stops for red lights in any car), and then complained about paying $10K for entirely different software "that can kill someone", but has never been involved in a fatal accident.

The ad demands Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) be removed from public roads until it has “1,000 times fewer critical malfunctions.”

Tomato, tomahto all you want. I'm slamming the software too. The autopilot or FSD whichever one does the driving on its own is not great. Only one costs 10K so I don't know how you got confused about what I was talking about so easily. Do you get what I'm saying now???

You are conflating unrelated things. The driver who ran the red light was not using any $10K FSD features. He was using Autopilot, which comes with every Tesla. He ran a red light with cruise control on. The same thing would have happened with the same driver and any car with cruise control.

Then don't you think a**hole Musk should start calling "cruise control"...."cruise control", instead of some made up fantastical bullsh!t made up advertising nonsense?

Yeah, yeah, it steers a little, but according to some reports, not all that well.

First off Musk made a really big mistake IMHO calling the software "Autopilot". It gives people with too much trust in the system a false sense of security. It's a highly advance driving assist program like every other one currently available. It can be a life saver in certain situations but is still not a complete substitute for a person behind the wheel.

The big problem is no software is 100% bullet proof 100% of the time. No matter how well coded and debugged there are edge cases where it will fail. With something as complicated and potentially erratic as driving a vehicle, it's fool hardy to leave it totally in the control of a software system, period.

The only way to make self driving cars close to 100% safe is to reduce the complication and erraticness of driving by making everything self driving, or completely separating self drivers from human operators. With that said driving assist systems with a driver properly monitoring have the potential to reduce accidents by a highly significant amount, and shouldn't be discounted out of hand.

Autopilot (capital "A") is a branding, not a product description. A Ford Mustang is not a horse. Even so... for years, autopilot in an aircraft could do nothing more than maintain a heading and speed. It would crash into a mountain if left unattended.

Ford has never claimed a Mustang could win a dressage event or the Kentucky Derby (**) but Musk has claimed "Autopilot" can drive his cars.

That is not even remotely correct. Tesla/Musk has never, ever claimed that Autopilot could stop for red lights or could "drive his cars". That will be a feature of FSD, which is a different product.

Gosh, I think even the lowly Toyota has automatic braking these days. So, "Autopilot" is still a stretch.

The "lowly Toyota" does *not* stop for red lights, and would have run the light just like the Tesla did.

Autopilot does brake for cars just like the Toyota.
