Elon Musk says he'll build his own smartphone if Apple and Google ban Twitter

It's quite the contrary, the market is completely saturated, and actually shrinking, there's absolutely no room for another player.

Maybe in parts of the world where the 17 chinese brands work, here in the Us you have the choice of samsung, motorola, or apple. HTC is useless, LG is gone, BLU is gone, HUWAEI is banned. And of those phones, we only get a handful of what samsung makes, same with motorola. We get their cheap junk, and their flagships, but not much in the middle. Brands like xaiomi are grey market and dont have full US band support, for the likes of verizon and ATT their phones will not work, period.

In the more sensible $400-700 high range market and in the $200-300 market there is a sore lack of competition.

I'd really like Microsoft to sell him the rights to Windows Phone. Could he make it work or would Musk strangle it even further.

Windows Phone's biggest issue was nothing to do with the OS itself and everything to do with MS's utter inability to follow its own updating rules, constantly alienating their customer base. If anyone but MS had it it could have stood a decent chance of still existing as an alternative.

I knew a couple of guys that had Windows phones when they were out and they actually really liked them. They were bummed when MS stepped away from the phone business.

that's right. in other parts of the world, if you want a proper android, it's either samsung or all the other chinese companies. motorola and sony don't came officially in too many regions, nokia simply don't have good offering above $500.

I kinda wish Elon would somehow make a phone in collab with LG Mobile (sure he already had some connections with LG for the batteries), so then maybe there's a chance we'll see LG mobile again somehow. he could've revived the buried LG Rollable phone, slap his name at the back of the phone and put it on the market before samsung and the others follow suit. or maybe he could make LG Wing 2.0 or something else. that way there's a chance I'll get my hands on a normal LG phone again.

Myself, and others on TS, have been trashing Elon for years (well before he pretended to become a republican) - because he has never invented anything. It's all Elon's window dressing.

Regardless of political association, if anyone thinks Elon delivers anything but crap and a lot of hot air, I suggest that they look for another personal BS detector. Example, Elon said he would be sending people to Mars by now. Where's that? Elon is nowhere near sending anyone to Mars in this universe or any other. Elon just likes to pass meaningless gas out his various orificies because people, unwisely, believe him and he gets attention in the press. IMO, what you are suggesting is akin to all the content providers starting their own streaming services because "streaming is a fad" and they will rake in all kinds of money from jumping on the fad bandwagon. That is not working out well for them.

Elon is a fad who is striking out in any direction he can in a misguided attempt to remain relevant, IMO.

I agree completely. I'm a massive Apple hater, and will never own an apple product. Overpriced and nothing more than a popularity statement, especially for their computers. Androids and PCs are far superior.

I just would like to point out that Musk gave kanye west a ben yesterday for posting photo of the Star of David merged with the swastika....or something along those line.
