I worked for another 2 years and was the top performing employee for the the period. Salary was meager, got no real bonuses. After two years someone noticed my talent and I got an offer for 10x the salary I was earning at the time.

Take pride in your work and life will offer you opportunities, even if bosses are bad bosses.
Be well,
So basically you are saying that, despite a meager salary and no bonus, people should work very hard year after year and life will offer you opportunities.
That is a company owner’s talk: low wage, hard work and it’ll take you far.
Sorry, that doesn’t stick even if you try to glue it! I can give you 100 names from people that did that all their lives and went nowhere but the basic salary/rank. Why? Exploitation. “Why pay more if he works hard with a low salary?”
I would agree if you said “if you don’t go anywhere and you are good and motivated, open your OWN company and you’ll succeed!”. Most cases succeed hard and fast. But working for other people, hard and nice, most of the time won’t get you much higher. Eventually in some niche markets and companies…
I give you my example: I worked on many companies, hard, I’m very good at what I do and I never got a raise if I didn’t ask for it (with a lot of pressure); I was asked if I could do more responsibility tasks (which require much more effort and time) but earning the same, with a “promise” that I would get rewarded. Which I didn’t and not until I left for another company, people didn’t make an offer. Then yes, but it was too late. That happened to me and many people I know. Who climbs fast? Those that are buddies from the boss , just sign papers and play golf. Those get a lot of money, they chief you and tell you that you have to work hard (with the same payment).
So, unless my contract says I’ll be rewarded and that I’ll get a good payment if dismissed, I won’t work there. Work hard with a “maybe”? No thank you. 99% chance you’ll get nowhere.
