External 2.5 ide enclosure bootup

I had my mother board go out on my laptop (windoows XP), so I got a enclosure (NexStar.3) and a new x300 thinkpad with windows Vista, and I am trying to transfer my files but they are password locked. I have done the hole take ownership of the files but they are still locked. How do I unlock windows XP?
