The fact that this is (allegedly, or could be), a "naturally occurring virus strain", actually aids China's denial of a man made GMO, rather than excludes their complicity.
It's easier to isolate a naturally occurring virus, and then culture it in a lab, than it is to go through experimental re-sequencing of it.

If Covid19 was discovered to be a GMO, it would provide direct linkage to the bio-lab in Yunnan.
However, the fact that it is naturally occurring, provides the Chinese government with, "plausible deniability", with respect to it's probable point of origin.. That, and as you pointed out, the lab's close proximity to the market, leads to the inescapable empirical conclusion, that Covid19 is something that either, "escaped" from the lab accidentally, or escaped from the lab,
"accidentally on purpose".
I wonder how this affects human beings, is the first question that would cross any researcher's mind. So It isn't any stretch to speculate that that the PRC would likely give the go ahead for human trials, as casually as, "let's try it and see".
This, (rather suspicious) "coincidental" aspect of the Covid19 epidemic is so far removed from "fake news" status, that it is bordering on absurd for anyone to denounce it as such.
