Fallout 76's $200 edition swaps canvas bag for nylon version, Bethesda offers 500 Atoms...

  1. In what could be an analogy to the game itself, the military-style canvas bag appeared quite promising in the pre-release material but ultimately turned out to be disappointing. As you can see in the picture below, which comes from an Imgur user, the nylon version that replaced it doesn’t look like something you’d want to show off to your friends, or anyone else.

What’s even more amazing is the curt response one Redditor received from the Bethesda Gear Store support team when they enquired about the bag. The email read: "Sorry you're not happy, bag shown was a prototype and too expensive to make, not planning to do anything about it," which makes the company sound like the worst seller on eBay.

Bethesda did give an official response to the message, apologizing to the customer and explaining that the person was a “temporary contract employee and not directly employed by Bethesda.” A week after its release, the company updated the text on its product page to specify that the bag is nylon, though the image still states it is canvas.

In an attempt to appease angry buyers, Bethesda is offering 500 Atoms, Fallout 76’s microtransaction currency, as compensation. That’s a generous five dollars’ worth, which, as noted by PC Gamer's Chris Livingston, won’t even buy you the game’s postman skin that, ironically, comes with a canvas bag.

Bethesda's problems with Fallout 76 could extend to the courtroom. Earlier this week, it was revealed that a US law firm wants to investigate it over “deceptive trade practices.”

After becoming the company’s worst-reviewed game in 12 years, is there any hope for Fallout 76’s future?

Why does Bethesda keep messing up with fallout 76? They should just offer refunds, shut down the game servers and spend another year on it before releasing it again to the public. there's just too much wrong with it and their morals - they don't refund people with game codes and don't refund people who purchased collectors editions thinking they would get a nice canvas bag instead of a cheap nylon one.

At this rate they might as well let people host their own servers and give up on it.

They keep sinking lower and lower ..... I would not be totally surprised to see them go Chapter 11 before this mess is finally resolved. If they can't manage their inventory any better than this you can only imagine what's happening to the AP/AR .....

"is there any hope for Fallout 76’s future?"

I think you meant "Bethesda's future".

I sure would be, given that bethesda printed money between skyrim, fallout 4, and DOOM. They are nowhere near bankrupt.

The worst thing they will do here is torpedo the fallout fanbase for the forseable future. Now, if they have the same problems with ES6 and starfall, then we can talk about them possibly having financial problems.

I think that was the initial plan but then something happened and they changed their minds.

Fallout 76 is a full-scale disaster^ as I see it. Everything goes wrong with it.

I haven't bought the game since I figured MODs would not be allowed with it.

Just goes to show you that reputation and past performance is no guarantee of success.

Reminds me of Turtlerock Studios who put out Left 4 Dead which was a crazy-good game with a massive following, and Turtlerock could do no wrong as a result. Then they followed that up with Evolve, one of the worst games released in the last decade.

Man, I don't expect whoever was head of Fallout 76 to have much of a job after this is all settled lol

Otherwise, this is good "don't do that" material for other devs...

It's not too bad of a game in my opinion. Mods are very easy to load, and found on the standard Nexus site. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout76/

Not a whole lot of mods yet but I think there is a lot of negative press for no reason.
