LONDON – A group of researchers claim they've found the most distant explosion ever detected, a pulse of high energy radiation sent by a disintegrating star near the very edge of the observable universe.

So when do we meet the "aliens" then?

I find it frankly mesmerising that we can see so far into our universe, in an almost infinite distance, yet cannot say we have proof of not being alone in this world.

I guess that is because no one can travel these vast distances, and as nothing can travel faster than light, I guess it is just one of those dreams which would never come to pass.

The question of whether or not we're alone in the universe is by far for me the most mouth watering. Sadly humans are only in the metaphorical stone age of space travel yet.

To quote Star Trek: The Final Frontier

The people of your planet once believed their world was once flat. Columbus proved it was round.

They said the sound barrier could never be broken. It was broken.

They said warp speed could not be achieved...
