Away from the avalanche of new products pouring out of CES comes some new rumors regarding the Galaxy S8. In addition to alleged production targets and a release date, we’ve now seen the first purported photograph of Samsung's upcoming handset.

The image from Slashleaks matches the earlier S8 rumors: the physical home button has been removed in favor of a virtual version; it features a dual-edge curved display, and the bezels are noticeably smaller. As with previous renders, the Samsung name has been moved from the top of the phone to the bottom.

As with so many leaked product images of this sort, its authenticity is questionable - the absence of the rumored 3D Touch-style software navigation keys really throws the integrity of the picture into doubt. More than likely this is a photoshopped S7 Edge, but it could still bear a close resemblance the real Galaxy S8.

More reliable information comes from South Korea’s Electronic Times. The publication reports that Samsung has set an initial production target of 10 million S8 handsets. The company is doubtlessly banking on the smartphone selling well enough to help offset some of the $5.1 billion it lost through the Note 7 fiasco.

The Electronic Times added that S8 is set to go into production in March and launch sometime in April, possibly the 15th. The S5 and S6 both arrived during this month, but last year’s S7 had a March release date.

In other Samsung news, the company is expected to release the official report into what caused the Note 7 fires later this month. It’ll be interesting to see if the findings match those from Instrumental, whose engineers concluded that packing the battery too tightly inside the case was to blame.

I'd appreciate it if Techspot would do benchmarks of the top phones as soon as they are released.

The Processing benchmark should be something scientific and objective: Show us how quickly that the phones finalize 1Hour-long 4K video clips.

Show us how long the phones last from the moment they leave the charger in the morning till the moment they need to be recharged - and then give us the average usage time for a week.

Why? You can test all that yourself seeing you are an exclusively an iFan person and have only one model of phone to work with. TS's Scorpus' reviews of all mobile devices are in depth enough and quite informative. To do what you're asking for is too time consuming, impractical and of not much interest to it's broader user base.

They could've chosen a far better colour than that baby diarrhea brown colour to photoshop. I hope Samsung has more sense than to release the phone in that Godawful shade.

Holy crap the screen real estate is impressive, I wonder if we would ever see a truly bezel-less phone in my lifetime.

I mean its totally possible, they just have to come up with a way for the sensors and cameras to have the ability to see through the screen and digitizer. At most that area of your phone would still not able able to display any actual color, it would just be glass on top I assume.

That's the samsung Gold, but the camera that took the photo has heavy yellow saturation. They should have done the new Coral color.

Apple's hardware has barely changed at all in the past 8 years. The most recent 'update of hardware' was removing the headphone jack.
To be honest though, all smartphone designs are quite repetitive.

Here's a rumor

-Removable battery
-Cheaper than the S7 it replaces
-Wireless companies will stop gouging customers with bate and switch sales tactics
-1TB internal storage
-2TB SD card included in price
-Better apps
-Improved OS
