Im in the market for a new set of headphones (3.5mm jack) or a headset (USB) to be primarily used for gaming.
I have the ASUS Prime Z370-A motherboard and I just use the built-in Realtek sound card (link to motherboard here).
My question is: considering the sound card in the motherboard, which one of these would I be better off buying:
I mainly play FPS games, so 5.1 (or 7.1) surround sound is pretty important for hearing those footsteps.
Im not really looking for specific recommendations on headsets, but more advice of which type I should be looking at. Feel free to send a few if you know them off the top of your head

- A USB headset (with its own DAC in the headset); or
- A 3.5mm jack headphones to take advantage of the sound card in my motherboard?
