GeForce RTX 3050 vs. Radeon RX 6600: 50 Game Benchmark

WHEW....that's a LOT of work! Great article! Looks like AMD slapped NVidia around this time!
It‘s only ‚slapping around‘ if the price / performance advantage results in good sales and profits.
That does not appear to be the case sending once again a message to nVidia and AMD what gamers want done to them wrt.

Yet the same people who pay as much for an RTX 3050 as a 6600XT will again whine and complain that graphics card prices are too high.

I am suggesting you are talking out of your behind, because EVEYONE in the industry including people who own BOTH cards, will tell you that AMD's Driver are better and their software is better than NVidia's GeForce experience.

You've just said you have no 1st hand experience.. and you only buy a GPU every 3 years. While I install 15 drivers a years between 3 Gaming PC with varied brands of GPUs. (I prefer EVGA GPU's).

But today, with GCN gone and a new RDNA wrapper... it just marketing and ignorance to suggest NVidia has better drivers. I should say, they both have their own quirks, but I have more of them with GFE. NVidia has their share of driver issues...

But again, since AMD new RDNA(2) GPUs, their driver stack has better frame times (ie: the have more consistency) & the software suite itself seems more professional..

Again 5 years ago, this wasn't true...
Well, a simple google search shows that AMD driver problems are not uncommon. In fact, NAVI driver issues, from 2 years ago, were widely reported and discussed online. To what severity, I cannot say. Take note, that I never "bashed" AMD per se, just pointing out that someone people prefer Nvidia.

And while I might not upgrade video cards every year, I do have multiple gaming machines, including a tower that I built myself. I install drivers many times a year, Nvidia seems to be on a once a month or once every other month release schedule. I've never had to roll back a driver.

As for your comment about 'everyone in the industry' the few articles I read through don't seem to support your assertion. In most cases any head-to-head comparisons come out pretty equal. There are areas where Nvidia comes out ahead, like 4K graphics performance, DLSS, Ray Tracing. But, AMD shines in price/performance. In other words, there's nothing wrong with Nvidia and any suggestion that it's unwise to use Nvidia over AMD is poppycock.

Yeah, it's really looking like Steve should have compared the RTX 3050 to the RX 6600 XT based on price but to be fair, when he started the comparison, the RTX 3050 was closer to the RX 6600 and I don't blame Steve for not performing a complete do-over of what had to be a grueling task to say the least.

So, the situation is now even worse for nVidia (and those who foolishly bought the RTX 3050) because while the RX 6600 curbstomps the RTX 3050, I have to imagine that the RX 6600 XT would absolutely steamroll it.

Now go be fair to yourself and google NVidia driver issues...

They both have their issues... you aren't fooling anyone here. But on a per install basis, NV's driver have more issues for me and others. Again, that is not to say AMD doesn't have them..? Understand...?

Also, you are trying to defend you fanboi point, (again) without any actual 1st hand knowledge and you have not bothered to listen to actual Nvidia customers. (Look at the ratio who agree)

Secondly, we are talking about the stability and performance of the Drivers.. not their features or feature-set.

NVidia cards are loosing value because all games made for PS5 and XSX will use FSR and will natively be ported over to the PC world so even older GTX cards can play these new games. DLSS has no relevance in the larger gaming world.

The "AMD drivers sucks" BS again?

Steve himself debunked that here on the comments section a while ago.

Why do people keep making excuses to justify giving nvidia their moneis?

I can't remember the last time I had any sort of Nvidia driver issues. That's not to say that AMD has had more issues, but I have had zero Nvidia driver issues for the past couple of years.

It works both ways.

I never said it didn't go both ways, however, an article written by this same author a couple years ago paints a different picture.

From the article:

Nvidia went through a fair share of teething issues with Turing, but we think it's fair to say they went on top of any major issues very quickly. AMD, on the other hand, has had seven months to sort out Navi, and by the looks of it, they just haven't been able to deliver. We've received countless reports of crashing, flickering issues, and of course, the black screen bug.

And

Nearly half of all AMD users who took part in the poll responded 'Yes', they are having or have had serious issues with their Radeon GPU. The poll suggests that 48% of all AMD users have suffered major issues, while we see less than half that figure for Nvidia users at 22%.

Naturally, there's going to be some dodgy votes in there, but we don't believe a few fanboys are going to skew the data too heavily after gathering over 49,000 votes. That's a large enough sample size to take as evidence that AMD has a major problem they need to address.

Or then not. Anonymous internet polls always give interesting results.

Problem remains: AMD is supposed to have serious driver problems, but professionals cannot replicate them while using same drivers. If professionals cannot replicate problem that not so professionals claim to have, it probably does not exist. Also when replicating problem is nearly impossible, it's very much impossible to fix it.

How AMD was supposed to fix problem that they or other professionals cannot replicate?

49,000 votes is a pretty significant sample size. I doubt that it's inaccurate.

AMD thought it was enough of a problem to mention it in their release notes:

"AMD has publicly acknowledged these bugs as "known issues" in their 20.0.3 driver release notes, stating the following."

Some Radeon RX 5700 series graphics users may intermittently experience a black screen while gaming or on desktop. A potential temporary workaround is disabling hardware acceleration in applications running in the background such as web browsers or Discord.

No matter how many votes, we still have problem replicating those problems. I would assume professionals could confirm they exist but basically all we have are anonymous web browsers telling something.

Some users May encounter Randomly black screen doing Something. Potential Temporary workaround...

Just like some people reported and AMD told that you may try to disable HW acceleration while we check if that is really a problem. AMD didn't admit there is any sort of problem and that's why "fix" is very vague.

You dismiss 49,000 people pretty easily. Many of them could be "experts" in building PCs. You don't know. And, if they are all noobs, why then isn't there an equal amount of Nvidia complaints?

AMD acknowledged the problem. They have referred to it in multiple bios updates. Even if they don't acknowledge it, that doesn't mean it isn't a problem.
I'm never going to change your mind. It's made up. If you like AMD, great, use AMD GPUs. Maybe we will see how things go now that AMD and Nvidia are about to release new cards.

If you read through this thread.. you will see we already addressed that^. You are making a circular argument based of personal experience & anecdote, not science.

(Again 4YOU) I have always had 3 gaming PCs. I have built my rigs over the last 20 years and am 100% hardware agnostic. My criteria is purely for high quality bang for the buck prosumer.

My last 5 gaming GPUs have been EVGA. My Radeons used in my sim and other rigs, also have had minimal problems. But (ONCE AGAIN) Nobody is talking about personal experiences. We have facts.

When put to the test in frame times and calls to the CPU and driver stacks, AMD is ahead of nVidia since AMD re-wrote their entire driver stack from the ground up for RDNA. It's why both new Consoles, Samsung phones, Handheld gaming devices all use RDNA. It a pure gaming architecture, split from compute architecture and is much more efficient than cuda cores.

Only die hard fanbois who can't absorb reality are unaware of this they have no mindspace for AMD technology and live oblivious to AMD's patents and advancements..

Perhaps Techspot should do a full expose' (w/ new AM5 rig) to illustrate it to you?

Majority of those 49K people may have been bots. Again, if there really was a problem, then why experts are not able to replicate problem? It's very possible whole problem is just smear campaign driven by Nvidia.

Virtually every problem that really is a problem could be confirmed by experts. Even some that are hard to find, like fTPM shuttering bug. That problem really existed, experts and AMD were able to replicate it. These "driver issues" are another thing, not confirmed by experts. Another thing is that even if noobs think that is driver issue, it might be something else.

This is very simple: give proof that there really was driver problem. I have not encountered it, experts cannot confirm it neither. And now I should believe it exists because 49K bots say so

Neither have a driver problem... people are having driver issues. With 40 millions PC gamers, there are bound to be 100,000 complaints. FOr any reason. There is no need to fall into such trap.

AMD has better Driver performance... and have professional drivers.

I think I backed up my personal experiences with a reference to an article, written by the same author as this one. 49,000 people in a survey. Those using AMD had 2x the issues as Nvidia users. It's not just my personal experience.

Given that AMD is so far ahead of Nvidia it's amazing that the 3080 Ti is right there with the Radeon 6950 XT. And since no one has any of the new GPUs we will have to wait a few weeks to see how they perform. Note that I never said AMD was bad, only that I had no issues with Nvidia and others had reported more problems with AMD than Nvida.

At the moment, Nvidia GPUs outsell AMD 3-to-1, so I guess there must be more fanboys for Nvidia than AMD.

That was two years ago... based on a sample of people who bought cards from 5 years ago.. Has nothing to do with RDNA driver stability or features that are in the Playstation5 and Xbox Series X/S.

You are talking about the past....

Now, as you keep referencing anecdotal stuff.. there are many of benchmarks showing how AMD's RDNA drivers perform better and have less unfettered frames. I know you don't want to discuss this and fall back on to a "Problem based" argument of AMD vs Nvidia, instead of an actual technical one... we see through it.

Coincidentally, in gaming we see the RX6950 beating the RTX3090ti in many games... what is really odd, is that the 3080ti never beats the 3090ti. So that really does mess with your reality, doesn't it...? (Ever hear of Warzone?)

WHo cares what fanbois do, it's their money let them be dumb.

You're confused. I never said that AMD was bad, I only stated that I had no problems with Nvidia and showed that there were some reports indicating that people with Radeon cards were having more issues than Nividia owners. I like the way you cherry pick one example as some sort of proof of superior performance. And why would you expect a 3080Ti to beat a 3090Ti? That doesn't even make sense. Does that mess with your reality?

You might like this article from Tom's hardware. You will see that with the current crop of cards AMD does indeed win when resolutions are 1080 or 2K, but they lose when it's 4K and when DLSS is turned on. Overall, I'd say the 3090Ti and the 6950XT are pretty much on par as are the 3080Ti and 6800XT.

It will be interesting to see how the new crop of cards fare.
