Hello. How does the Gmail application on Android interface with the Gmail server? In other words, what protocol is used that allows you to view messages on your phone without downloading them (like with Thunderbird and similar e-mail managers) and without deleting the stored messages from the server?
Now that I think about it, the app feels like a web portal of sorts.
