Gmail is getting a new look later this year

In a nutshell: Next week, users will be able to try out a new look Google is bringing to Gmail, which integrates Gmail, Google Meet, Google Chat, and Google Spaces into one view. Google plans to roll it out to all users and make it the standard by the end of the second quarter of this year.

Starting February 8, users might start seeing a prompt in Gmail asking them to try the new format Google is bringing to the service. It’s supposed to more closely integrate other conversation services like Meet, Chat, and Spaces into the same screen as Gmail.

A Google provided a screenshot showing an interface similar to Gmail's current look, but with the other services listed on the left side of the screen. Google says users will see information from all its workspace services more efficiently. Chat, Spaces, and Meet will also be searchable via Gmail's search bar eventually.

Customers will have to opt-in during this first phase and will be able to revert any time if they wish. Google will update users about the new features in its Workspace Updates Blog as they near implementation.

Starting in April, Google will roll out the new look as the default to all users. However, they’ll still be able to revert to the older interface until the end of Q2 2022. At that time, the new look becomes standard, with no option to change it.

Gmail is the biggest piece of crap out there.

Go online shopping all over the internet and soon after the products you were looking at shows up in your gmail. And unlike with Microsoft and Apple, there seems to be no way to turn Googles spies off.

I'm curious how they do it.

There is but you won't be able to load your favorite websites after you install it..

"NoScript for Firefox blocks "googleanalytics", and "doubleclick.net".

However when you go to Newegg, you'll have to allow permissions for a script on every function of the page. Want "Q & A", that's one script, "Reviews", yup another script.

I usually amuse myself by ignoring anything Google sends me that I haven't personally shopped for.. Which means all those advertisers that Google has sold space to, can piss off, while they piss their money away, as far as I'm concerned.

Google ads are sort of like pimples, if you pick at them, they'll get worse. But, if you leave them alone, they'll go away fairly quickly.

As for people I've done business with, Ebay is by far the worst.

In it's favor, Google will unsubscribe you from e-ads you no longer want, at the drop of a click.

Google Container is a great browser addon to keep them at bay. Same for Facebook Container.

Still gmail web interface is simply awful. Folder management is a joke, conversation view is confusing and all but clear, need to do some switch.
As for privacy - no big corpo free emails are private. All will use it for ads. Unless you go proton or similar there will be no much difference.

I must be doing something right as I don't recall ever being plagued by such, mind you I shop most on the PC with Ublock and NoScript etc enabled (Firefox), and browse on my adblocked Android with the DuckDuckGo browser - all were put on merely to avoid on-line adverts, but maybe it's doing the same for the junk mail too.

Well, with NoScript, I couldn't get into my banking apps. I'd approve one script, then get blocked at the next stage. I do confess that I'm pretty lazy, And didn't feel like d!cking around white listing every script I ran into while using the browser.

I vividly recall Newegg being a real nuisance, with every function on the page being tied to a different script. This was years ago. Perhaps the newer versions of the extension aren't as aggressive.

Like I said before, all you oreally need to block is googleanalytics ans doubleclick.net, and that will suppress a lot of the tracking.

Here's the thing though, I just bought a toaster oven that I shopped for myself. Google, Amazon, and Ebay are welcome to send me all the ads for toaster ovens their black little hearts desire. Too late, I don't need another toaster oven, and whomever is paying for the ads, is pissing their money away to Google, and I'm still getting free email service.

Like I also said before, Google ads are like pimples, and you shouldn't pop them.

As soon as you dismiss one of their "targeted ads", the humps will launch a questionnaire, wanting to know why you dismissed the ad. If you ignore it, it'll be gone in a day.

One thing I have noticed though, if you shopped for something but didn't buy it, those ads will linger longer or revisit you sooner.

I was in sales for a while. I didn't feel like listening to my own bullsh!t, let alone somebody else's. So, good sales resistance on my part.

Blergh. If I don't have so many email, I'd just switch to offline email client at this point. Just give me my mail, I don't want any of that bullcrap.
