Google Chrome: Fake Ad Blockers

There's lots of them so says Jason Murdock of Newsweek.

Surfing through the Chrome's Web Store is like walking through a minefield,” AdGuard wrote in its analysis. “If you want to install an extension, think twice. And then think twice again. Check who is the author of this extension. Do not install it if you don't trust the author.

Here is the full list.

We have reported these extensions to Google. Hopefully, they will be taken down soon.
It's convoluted and arduous to chase down this stuff.

First of all, just because an extension can be found promoted through a web store like Chrome web store, it does not mean it is all reliable and useful. A lot of tools get reported after a few weeks after their release and get blocked and removed by Google for being harmful or potentially unwanted.

Second, it is always advisable to run a web search on any free or paid tool you want to install because you may actually find tons of articles on how and why you need to remove that particular extension or software. Most of these are potentially unwanted programs, adware apps, or browser hijackers.

So they are reporting those extensions as Malware? Let me know should uBlock Origins be added to the list.

It would be a better article if a true ad-blocker list was added as substitute for the fake ad-blockers. Because when people read they are likely to try another fake one.

You said all the links though. There are two links that are not for the extensions. I corresponded for both groups.

Thanks for the feedback - - YES all four links for the add-ons are now 404, Not Found.

The AdGuard link is still good :)
