Hello,

I'm having issue with rampant Google redirection problem in Firefox. Marriage is at risk. Any help greatly appreciated!

I've performed the "8 steps"; three logs are attached.

Additional information: whenever I open a Firefox session, Antivir gives the following detection:

\GLOBAL??\C2CAD972#4079#4fd3#A68D#AD34CC121074\L\max++.00.x86
Is the TR/Dropper.Gen Trojan

Antivir detection have continued after running the "8 steps".

Also, when I ran HijackThis, I got the following error message:

"Please help us improve HijackThis by reporting this error.
Click 'Yes' to submit.
Error Details:
An unexpected error has occurred at procedure: modMain_CheckOther1Item()
Error #62 - Input past end of file.
Windows version: Windows NT 5.01.2600
MSIE version: 8.0.6001.18702
HijackThis version: 2.0.2"

However, upon closing, I seemed to get complete report from HijackThis, but I haven't run it before, so I'm not sure...

Again, many thanks in advance for whatever help I may get!!!

David

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
  1. Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
  2. Close any open browsers.
  3. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
    • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
    • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
NOTE1. If Combofix asks you to install Recovery Console, please allow it.
NOTE 2. If Combofix asks you to update the program, always do so.
    • Close any open browsers.
    • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
    • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
    • If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.
  4. Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  5. When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  6. Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

Make sure, you re-enable your security programs, when you're done with Combofix.

DO NOT make any other changes to your computer (like installing programs, using other cleaning tools, etc.), until it's officially declared clean!!!

Hello,
ComboFix downloaded and run as per instructions.
ComboFix log and log from rerun of HijackThis attached.
(FWIW, Avira antivir is no longer reporting issue when Firefox is launched...)

Hello,

I have run SystemLook as per instructions.

However, I can't attache the file from this computer because the "Attach Files" section of the posting page here is no longer working for me on both Firefox and IE. When I click on the button labeled "Manage Attachments" under "Additional Options"->"Attach Files", nothing happens.

Before running ComboFix, clicking the button would pop up a new window with a form for selecting and attaching files, so I'm presuming this is a consequence of the ComboFix run.

How can I restore this function?

Or should I just paste the contents of SystemLook.txt directly into the message window?

Again, thanks in advance.

Hmmm. size SystemLook.txt = 18Mb... Please ignore the "paste?" question...

I think, it takes 5 posts before you can post links, so you should be OK now.
Please, try again.

I tried two more times to post a link. Still not showing up.
Also tried uploading file on another computer; upload not working on that one, either.
Let's try this: the link to my SystemLook.txt file is:

at the www + . + uploadmb + . + com site,

at /dw.php?id=1267754033

Your link posted just fine. I'm downloading the file. It takes time, so be patient.

1. Please open Notepad
  • Click Start , then Run
  • Type notepad .exe in the Run Box.

2. Now copy/paste the entire content of the codebox below into the Notepad window:

Hello,

What do you mean by "illegal torrents issues"? I'm honestly not aware of having used any illegal torrent downloads on this PC. Please explain, so I can put the kibosh on any less-than-kosher goings-on...

OTM run, here are the results:

  • Click on the CleanUp! button and follow the prompts.
  • You will be asked to reboot the machine to finish the Cleanup process, choose Yes. If it doesn't ask you to reboot, restart computer manually.
  • After the reboot all the tools we used should be gone.
  • The tool will delete itself once it finishes.

Verify your Java version here: http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp
Update, if necessary.
Uninstall all previous Java versions, through Add\Remove (Programs & Features in Vista).

=========================================================================

Disable TeaTimer, as it'll interfere with the cleaning process:
Right click Spybot's TeaTimer System Tray Icon.
Click Exit Spybot-S&D Resident.
TeaTimer closes.
NOTE. If on re-boot, Spybot inquires about registry change(s), allow it.

Alternatively, I suggest, you uninstall Spybot since it's a tool of the past.

=======================================================================

Print this post out, since you won't have an access to it, at some point.

1. Open HijackThis.

2. Close all windows, except for HijackThis.

3. Put checkmarks next to the following HijackThis entries (these are unnecessary startups; no actual programs will be removed):

4. Click on Fix checked button.
