Graphics card problem

Hi this is my first time fitting a graphics card, it's all in properly and everything because it gets hot when I tun the computer on, but when I plug the vga cable into it, nothing shows on screen.

the graphics card is the Saphhire Radeon 5450 HD 1 GB

pc specs are:
Windows 7 professional
3gb ram
Intel core duo 2.4ghz processor

EASY solution.

Try both ports on the video card. Let me know what happens when you do that.

He has had this problem previously when we were fitting 8600GT, the monitor would not come on and it would display the usual "no signal". Tried to disable the onboard, through device manager, installing drivers and alike.

I had this problem once. Try if this helps.
remove the graphics card.Use the onboard vga slot as it was before.
Now Press Del key or f2 as specified to goto the setup menu.
goto Chipset configuration and On the Initdisplay select PCI/onboard.
It will be by default onboard.
This resolved my problem.
