HDD will read in desktop but not laptop

I have tried to fix a mates sony vaio's hdd issue. Re installed windows, and it boots fine from my pc. When I put it back into the laptop it doesn't boot. gives a blue screen with some writing on for a split second, then nothing - black screen....

Any ideas?

Are both the same version of Windows? Win/7 & 8 don't like XP or Vista boot environments

You need to reinstall Windows in the HDD using his laptop and not your Desktop PC. Since both machines are different the Windows installation you've made from your Desktop won't just simply boot on your friends laptop that is why you got a blue screen.
