Help a noob : deck vs sub/amp

Ok so long story short.
got a new car. audio in it is lacking. I want to upgrade.
have zero smarts when it comes to this topic.

I don't want to blow the bank (up to $500) on new gear but I want to get something where I will notice a significant difference in my system...ie added base and clarity specifically when it comes to house music and drops.

do you recommend getting a high quality deck or a decent amp/subwoofer combo?

Cheapest would be to upgrade the front two (and back two) speakers to some good quality ones.
