I used the free grisoft avg antivirus on the computer I built. I have norton system works on my old pc. Grisoft avg works well, scans faster than norton, but I haven't got any viruses yet, so I don't know if it works at getting rid of viruses well. Overall, I'm impressed with it. Grisoft website

You could dl it now and save it to a cd (or usb thumbdrive) and then use it to install it later.

It also is a really good idea to get a firewall (or is your cable already firewalled?). How does cable connect to your pc if it doesn't use a ethernet card? (hehe, yeah I'm stuck on dialup, no broadband access where I live, the farm country) I use zonealarm, and it works well.

Another handy program is ad aware se. It detects and deletes spyware on your computer. Spybot s&d is also pretty good for this, and microsoft has an antispyware that looks like it works well too.

Yeah, a printed copy of the guide could be handy. You could memorize it or copy it by hand :haha: .

I'm not sure how much risk it would be to get on the net to dl something without an antivirus. I don't think antivirus programs protect you from viruses, but rather get rid of them once you get some (correct me if I'm wrong).

yea im no gonna get all caught up on getting a virus as soon as i connect my pc to the net

what i meant was that my a8n should have an ethernet inside right??
i currently have an ethernet pci card for my cable
my connection is 5mbps per sec, but im lving right outside nyc

Oh, you mean that you won't need a ethernet card because the mobo has it built in. Yeah, most new mobos have at least one ethernet port. I think the a8n has dual lan. One for broadband, one for home networking.

i was just also looking at the msi instead of chaintech.
But wow well i can def afford that price! (the 6800) good find! but is that a cheapo card?? is the processor better then the 6600gt? and ill need an even better power supply right?

I have an MSI and it performs very well. As far as I know they are top of the line in quality.

I use the an antec neopower 480 watt in three of my rigs here at home and about 90% of the computers I have built in the past 7 months have that PSU in them thay work well and are very good, I am yet to have a proble with one other then one was siped damaged but the box was fine, it was replaced promptly.
