Help with either upgrading or building a new computer? Processor, graphics card etc

Hey everyone, I'm just getting into computer building, I have much to learn but was wondering if I should just upgrade my computer or buy a whole new one, for gaming. My specs are as follows. Simply reply, if you want anymore info!! Thank you for any and all input!
System: Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Version 2002, Service Pack 3

Computer: AMD Sempron(tm) Processor 3400+ 1.80 GHz, 1.93 GB of RAM Physical Address Extension

Hi there,
It would help to know what resolution you wish to game at, level of detail you would expect, types of games etc. short of that, I would recommend a complete new build just because of the Sempron. besides being a single core CPU, it is one of the least capable CPU's on the food chain, as well as being rather dated now. If you can provide the details listed above, and a budget, one or more of us will be glad to help with budget/use appropriate build suggestions.
