How often do you replace your computer?

It's 5 years for me, but l try to extend it a bit for a year or two. So it's safe to say that I replace mine in 5-7 years.

When your laptop reaches its "shelf life", do you give it away or do you keep it close? I have a habit of hoarding stuff I don' really need because I get too attached. lol

I built my PC in 2010 and it is still doing fine. I bought a Dell Studio 1747 in 2010 and just replaced it three months ago, but didn't have to and am now sort of regretting it as I find this BIOS replaced with UEFI not to my liking as it makes booting to a USB difficult.
I gave my old Dell laptop to my daughter and she is pleased as punch with it.

Hey, Brooke! Yeah, I keep some of the parts to use for later sometimes (like repairs). But most of the time, I give the entire thing away to relatives that are less fortunate to buy them as often as I do, like my nieces, nephews and cousins who still study and needs a computer for school. AS much as I'd like to keep all of them, I have no space. lol

Desktop: doesnt really get "replaced" as much as "upgraded when something breaks or gets too slow and old" The mobo/CPU is 5 years old, no real reason to replace anything. GPU is getting long in the tooth, but still not sure what to replace it with.

Laptops get replaced when the hardware (99% of the time the GPU) cant keep up, and a newer, more powerful version comes along. Sadly, since AMD dropped the ball completely on their APUs, I've been stuck with a haswell based Lenovo L440 for 4 years now. Want something better, but until AMD releases raven ridge, no good iGPU is more powerful then what I already have (I run linux, so dedicated isnt an option).

I upgrade mine with part yearly as much as possible but to replace the entire thing, my previous one lasted for about 6 years (but still working, I just opted for a laptop now).
