I got tired of waiting for the autoplay to quit on my XP so I googled the title & got this link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/967715

I then scrolled down & clicked on this link http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=22818
& followed directions to the letter
Instructions

  1. To start the download, click the Download button and then do one of the following, or select another language from Change Language and then click Change.
    • Click Run to start the installation immediately.
    • Click Save to copy the download to your computer for installation at a later time.
  2. I'm still sitting here watching the autoplay crap going :(. Its a 465 gb usb harddrive.
  3. "EDIT" I even rebooted afterwards,too:(
  4. AUTOPLAY.JPG

Psst: Autostart <is not> Autoplay (or Autorun). The former is a boot-time choice for services and the latter is used on removable media :)

Download TweakUI. Nifty tool to tweak a variety of user interface options in XP (many of which aren't easily accessible without registry hacks). TweakUI installs itself in C:\Windows\System32

Look under My Computer->Autoplay. But also at all TweakUI tweak to your heart's delight :)

How easy is that to use? I'm not too tech savvey.
"EDIT"
I think I did it, will check in a bit.

Thanks. TechSpot is a darn good school (forum) with some very patient helpers. More than I can say for other forums I've been to. (y)
