How to fix netbt stopped

I have windows xp on my netbook. I manually removed the Internet Security 2012 virus. I checked and my tcp/ip is running but my netbt has stopped. When I go to
start>run>regedit
HKLM/system/current control set/services
NETBT is missing completely
Can anyone help me please. I cannot connect to the internet. I am pulling all 00000's

The Netbt is NetBIOS over TCP and used for accessing systems on your LAN, not the internet per se.
You should be able to use email / browsers without netbt. Suggest you start by issuing IPCONFIG /ALL
and ensure your tcp settngs are correct.
