I can't install Python

I can't install any version of Python onto my laptop; I am getting the error message: "This installation package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package." My laptop is 64-bit, but any version of Python would be fine - I.e. Python 3.3.4 or Python 2.7.6 - I just need it installed!!! Thank you!

Hmm; A windows installer will have the extension MSI or EXE.
Sometimes we download a zip (or tar.gz), expand it and find the MSI or EXE within. If you have a bunde like foo.rpm, that's a Linux package.
