If you download movies from a torrent site is it illegal?

so I downloaded diary of a whimpy kid, school of rock, the spy next door,the pacifier,the simpsons movie, and a hindi movie called my name is khan. from a torrent site. so i wanted to know if its illegal to download these movies

Mind you, most movies in the US are copyrighted.

A hindu movie may not be subject to copyright laws in the U.S., but the rest of the movies mentioned are copyrighted so yes, it is ILLEGAL to download them.

in most countries it depends of the author's permission to redistribute or copy! so its illegal.

I guess you can say it is Illegal. However, Many people do it and the government is not really paying attention as they have more important things to do.
