So I'm wondering what does my mobo need to have in order for me to use what appears to be the faster HD option of a M2 SSD vs. a normal SSD??

From what I can tell the M2 option is faster by a lot. Is that incorrect?

Thanks for any help.

M.2 is faster but you will need a motherboard or PCIe card that supports M.2. And as it stands I too am confused as to whether or not a PCIe card can be made bootable. The SATA SSD on the other hand will simply replace your HDD if you don't need much storage. If you need additional storage use the SSD for boot and the HDD for storage.

I think you are confusing things here.

M.2 is a slot type. M.2 slots can be connected to a PCI-Express bus or a SATA bus; PCI-E is much faster than SATA.

If you have a SATA-only M.2 slot, you will not see much difference in performance compared to a full-size SATA SSD.
