Instagram’s user base continues to soar as the Facebook-owned company announced on Tuesday that it now plays host to over 400 million members.

The service, which launched in October 2010, has added more than 100 million users since surpassing the 300 million mark in December of 2014. It’s taken just 18 months to double the 200 million users it reported in March of 2014.

The growth is especially impressive considering the proliferation of instant messaging apps like Snapchat and WhatsApp.

Of the new additions, more than half are from Asia and Europe. In total, more than 75 percent of the social network’s community now consists of international users, we’re told.

The influx of new users also means more photos are being shared each day. On average, Instagram saw 70 million new images uploaded each day last December. That number has now swelled to more than 80 million.

Facebook bought Instagram in 2012 as part of a cash and stock deal valued at $1 billion. That seemed like a huge acquisition at the time yet it paled in comparison to Facebook’s $19 billion purchase of WhatsApp roughly two years later.

Over the summer, Instagram focused on bolstering its offering first by updating the app’s search and explore features on mobile before bringing search to the web. You can download Instagram here.
